KRISTINA HARGIE, MA, LMFT

Contracting Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

Are you struggling to know how to best help your child? Luckily, you're not alone in these feelings. As a mother and child therapist, I understand the worry and frustration but also the deep love and care that parents feel for their child.

Kiddos, as I call them, are my life from the early stages of my career as an Early Intervention/Early Childhood Special Education teacher to working with children and families at the Native American Rehabilitation Association and Western Psychological in Vancouver. What is it about children, you ask, makes me want to do this work? They are hilarious. The things they say and do are comical. But what makes me most excited is the opportunity to rewire the brain at a young age. Neural plasticity!!!!!

Children don’t have a one size fits all button. Believe me, I sometimes wish they did. Each child is complex just like adults. Hence, my approach to working with kiddos is eclectic, drawing inspiration from cognitive-behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, exposure therapy, and family systems theory.

Wait, that is not all! I believe in tailoring my methods to the unique needs, resources, and strengths of each client and family by embracing creativity in my practice, incorporating art, play, movement, humor, or any other modality that contributes to the child and families healing journey. Really, I think it is just that I, too, love doing all these things with kids like squishing playdough or smelling the smelly markers.

All your feelings as a parent are seen and validated. I am here to support you on this journey of being a parent and provide your child the growth they need to be their very best self.

A Little About Me...

I love being a mother. Being with my family and friends brings me the most joy in my life. My passions are climbing mountains, hiking, trail running, mountain biking, and lifting weights. Yes, I love playing in the rain and mud! It's the kid in me. I also love reading, gardening, and traveling. Oh... and Harry Potter. Forgot that one.

Individual Counseling is where people come to solve problems, grow, and change their lives in the direction that they think is best for them and their families. When people are stuck and they don't know how to stop certain behaviors, counseling can provide the skills they need to get them where they want to go in life.

Family Counseling

Family Counseling is where the parents and kids come together to talk through ongoing problems in the household and how to have more fun and peace in the home. The counselor sits down with everyone at once and identifies how everyone may or may not be contributing to these goals.
